David A. Newtown

Born in Ogdensburg, David was the son of the late John and Margaret (Burley) Newtown. He graduated from Morristown High School and went on to build a life centered on hard work, craftsmanship, and generosity. He was previously married to Michelle DePue, and although their marriage ended in divorce, they shared the gift of family. Later in life, David found lasting happiness with his longtime companion, Georgia Gilmour, with whom he shared many wonderful years.

A self-employed carpenter and gifted furniture maker, David was known for his exceptional talent and attention to detail. Whether he was building custom furniture or tackling a repair, his workmanship reflected both pride and skill. His workshop was a place where creativity came to life, and the pieces he crafted will remain lasting reminders of his passion.

David was equally well known for his kindness and willingness to help others. He enjoyed purchasing lawnmowers, four-wheelers, and other equipment, fixing them up, and giving them to those who could benefit from them. His quiet acts of generosity touched many lives and reflected the compassionate person he was.

Above all, David cherished spending time with his family. He found great joy in watching his loved ones grow and creating memories that will be treasured for years to come.

David is survived by his daughter, Jamie Deyou of Georgia; his grandchildren, Andrew Deyou, Evan Deyou, and Alyssa Deyou; and a great grandson, Ezra Clary, his longtime companion, Georgia Gilmour of Morristown; her children, Jonathan Gilmour-Long and his wife, Tara, of Ohio, and Jennifer Buehler and her husband, Scott, of Ohio; their children, Jacob, Anna, Kaylee, and Jonah Gilmour, and Morgan and Addison Buehler; his brother, John Newtown and his wife, Janet, of Morristown; his sister, Sharon Dapson and her husband, Rick, of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

In addition to his parents, David was predeceased by his sister, Nancy Zuber.

There will be no public services at this time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Morristown Volunteer Fire Department.
