Funeral services for Donald F. Calkins, age 74 of Lisbon will be held on Monday December 03, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will follow the services at the Martin Cemetery in Lisbon with military honors.

Calling hours will be held also on Monday from 11:00am to 2:00pm at the funeral home. Mr. Calkins passed away at his home on Thursday (Nov 29, 2018).

Surviving is his wife Dorette; two sons Lawrence (Angela) Calkins of Lisbon and Michael (Nicole) Calkins of Lisbon; two daughters Tina Alley & her companion Robert Compo of Ogdensburg and Michelle Smithers & her companion Bob Cooper of Lisbon; step-sons James Brashaw of Ogdensburg and Sean(Carla) Brashaw of Theresa; step-daughters Michele Brashaw of Ogdensburg and Karen (Chris) Bidwell of Dexter; a brother Clayton (Soccoro) Calkins of Florida; a sister Diane Wilson of LaFargeville; grandchildren Tyler Alley, Jordon Alley, Mitchell Calkins, Kurtis Smithers, Taylor Smithers, Kristen Calkins, Jaelin Calkins, Evan Calkins and Meya Calkins; great grandchildren Skyliar Alley, Lincoln Alley, Wesley Seguin, Emma Seguin; step-grandchildren Jorden Brashaw, Dillon Binion, Holden Brashaw, Dustin Brashaw, Zachary Bidwell, Cote Bidwell and Desiree Lopez.

Donald was predeceased by his first wife Martha “Lynn” Calkins; a brother Lawrence Calkins and two sisters Jean MacPeek and Joan Ellis.

Donald was born on May 17, 1944 in Chazy NY, a son of the late Clayton & Eleanor (Fluery) Calkins. He attended Chazy High School and served in the US Army from 1961 to 1972 on active duty and later with the Army Reserves from 1972 – 1979. He was educated at North Country Community College where he received a Licensed Practical Nursing degree, and married Martha “Lynn” Wilcox on November 6, 1965. She predeceased him on Sept 8, 2005. On April 8, 2009, he was re-married to Dorette Bluteau.

During his career he worked at the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as a nurse from 1981 to 2001 when he retired. Also during that time he had a small engine repair shop with his son, and worked evenings as a home health care nurse.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, bird watching, mechanic work, being outdoors, socializing with neighbors and his pet dogs and cats. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lisbon American Legion. Friends and family are welcome to join a small luncheon at the United Presbyterian Church in Lisbon following services.
