Funeral services for Douglas J. McLear, age 60 of Kissimmee FL and formerly of Hammond, NY will be held on Wednesday (Jan 9, 2013) at 4:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
Calling hours will be held also on Wednesday from 1:00pm until the time of the service. Douglas passed away at his home in Florida on January 3, 2013.
Surviving is his mother Bernadette McLear of Waddington; fiancé Wynne Burnes of FL; and a brother Craig McLear of Morristown, uncles Lewis "Reggie" McLear & his wife Carol of Morristown, Marvin McLear & his wife Dorothy of Morristown and cousin Mel McLear & his wife Janet of Hammond. He was predeceased by his father Avery McLear.
Doug was born in Ogdensburg, NY on November 12, 1952, the son of Avery & Bernadette (LaFave) McLear. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1971 and continued his education at Canton ATC. He enlisted in the US Air Force from October 1972 until February 1977 and then the US Army from February 1977 to January 1980. He then worked as an EMT for Ogdensburg Rescue, Seaway Valley Ambulance, RB Lawrence Ambulance and then as a telephone operator for Ogdensburg Correctional until relocating to Florida.
He was a member of the Ogdensburg AMVETS, American Legion & Moose Lodge, Sons of Union of the Civil War, National Volunteer Fire Council in Washington, DC, Air Defense Radar Association, State of NY Fireman’s Association, Brier Hill Fire Dept. and St. Mary’s Cathedral.
He enjoyed hunting & photography. Memorial contributions can be made to the Brier Hill Fire Department.
