Elfrieda Gavel, age 95 of Ogdensburg and formerly of Pompton Plains, NJ died Thursday (Aug 27, 2015) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility. There will be no public funeral services. Arrangements are with the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gavel was born on February 25, 1920 in Germany, a daughter of the late Max W. & Margareta (Els) Fritzsch. She attended schools in Garfield, NJ and later married Edward Wolos, who at a young age predeceased her. She was remarried to Emil Gavel two years later. She was the proud owner and restorer of Sister Island Lighthouse on the St. Lawrence River, where many family gatherings took Place. During her career she was employed as a bookkeeper in New Jersey working for Edwards Engineering and Grace Chemical Company and others until her retirement.
She is survived by her son Edward (Betty) Wolos of Leesburg FL; a daughter Rebecca (Gerald) Huck of Brockville, Ont; a daughter-in-law Virginia Wolos of Pequannock, NJ; seven grandchildren Edward Wolos, Christine Tiger, Keith Wolos, Carolyn Olson, Jody Johnston, Heather MacCrimmon and Laura Orr; and was also known as G.G. to 13 great-grandchildren.
A son Keith Wolos; a sister Sonya Ethel; a brother Max Fritzsch and her second husband Emil Gavel predeceased her.
