Funeral services for Estella “Stella” M. Knowlton, age 92 of Heuvelton will be held privately at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Rob Schirmer officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Heuvelton.

Surviving are her children Patricia (Daniel) Basford of Heuvelton and Shirley (Thomas) McAdoo of Hampton, VA; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother Robert (Virginia) Dominie of Ogdensburg and many nieces, nephews & cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband William; a step daughter Melinda McNulty; three brothers William, Albert and Kenneth Dominie; sisters Betty Pierce, Dorothy Denio, Leona Ramsey, Eva Fieldson, Jeanette Ramsey, Inez LaLonde, Beatrice Baker and Lillian Montroy and a great-grandson Alex Basford.

Stella was born on May 4, 1928 in Norfolk, a daughter of the late William & Emma (Vermette) Dominie. She attended St. Mary’s Academy, and later married William “Tooter” Knowlton on May 30, 1946 in Scranton, PA.

Her working career began at Manning’s Dry Cleaners in Ogdensburg and later operated the family farm with her husband. After raising her family she became employed at Aiello Cheese in Heuvelton for 10 years, and then as a monitor at Heuvelton Central School until she retired.

Stella was an active member of the Heuvelton Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder, member of the choir, a custodian and coordinator of the rummage sales for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, singing in the choir and spending time with her family.
