George was born on June 1, 1934 in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of Charles E. & Beatrice (Parker) Dillingham. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and continued his education at Mercersburg Academy in Pennsylvania. He entered the United States Navy in 1955 and was stationed at the Brooklyn Navel Yard and the Naval Station in Norfolk, VA. George eventually served as a radioman on the USS Leyte and the USS Denebola with tours in the Pacific and Mediterranean until his honorable discharge in 1959. He later married Barbara Haas on June 11, 1960 at St. Adalbert’s Church in Elmhurst, NY.
George was the second generation to operate E. Dillingham Inc., a Customs House Brokerage Company and Dillingham, Jones & Cissel, Inc. insurance agency, both in Ogdensburg, until he retired in 2000. George was active in the Boy Scouts and was a Scoutmaster of Troop 3 in Ogdensburg where he shared his love for the outdoors with other young men and scouting staff. George was a charter member of a hunting club in the Adirondacks called the 35 Mile Club. Friendships developed at hunting camp ran as deep as the woods and streams themselves, and it is there where George cherished those friendships with men who shared the same love of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the various wildlife that inhabit the river, playing cards, traveling, watching sports on TV, spending time with family, and socializing with friends.
