A Memorial Service for Helen “Marion” Acres, age 91 of Madrid, will be held at 11:00am on Saturday (November 3, 2018) at the Scotch Presbyterian Church in Chipman, with Rev. Richard Hinkle officiating. Mrs. Acres passed away on Tuesday (October 9, 2018) at the Maplewood Healthcare & Rehab in Canton.
Surviving are two sons Kevin (Phyllis) Acres of Madrid and Brian Acres & his spouse Kevin Novacek of California; five daughters Wendy (Dennis) Flint of Naples FL, Fay (Dale) Rupert of Florida, Kathy (Michael) Thexton of England, Mardi Patterson of Michigan and Beth Acres & her husband Reg of Italy; grandchildren Brandon, Sean & Gavin Acres, Zoe & Isabelle Thexton and Brent & Molly Patterson; and sister-in-laws Jane Hartin of Richmond Ontario, Phyllis MacIntosh of Florida and Doreen Acres of Ottawa Ontario.
She was predeceased by her husband Carman, three sons Laurie, Trevor & Mark Acres; a brother Gilbert Hartin and two sisters Lois & Bunny Hartin.
“Marion” was born on April 5, 1927 in Richmond Ontario, a daughter of the late Robert & Florence (Hemphill) Hartin. She graduated from Richmond Ontario High School and obtained her teaching certificate in Ottawa.
During her career she worked briefly as a teacher, assisted her husband on the family farm that they bought in 1948, and operated a bed & breakfast for 35 years. She was active with the Scotch Presbyterian Church and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley where she earned Hospice volunteer of the year in 2007. She found great joy in her volunteer work, being a 4H leader in Chipman and volunteering at New Beginnings thrift store.
The Acres family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Maplewood and Hospice for their kindness and care of Mom. Their professionalism and empathy was very much appreciated.
