Howard C. Knight

Funeral services for Howard C. Knight, age 91, of Lisbon, will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed immediately by the funeral service with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Flackville Cemetery.

Howard passed away surrounded by the love of his family after a lifetime defined by hard work, dedication, and kindness.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 70 years, Dolores "Dot" Knight; his children, David (Gerri) Knight of Lisbon, , Kathy (John) Meigs of Lisbon and Florida, Cheryl (Billy) Sellers of Ogdensburg, Karen Howard of North Carolina, Brian Knight of Lisbon; his brother, Edward Knight of Colton; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Howard was predeceased by his parents, Sanford and Mabel (Thompson) Knight; his brother, Gerald Knight; and his sister-in-law, Bonnie Knight; grandchildren Brandon McLear, Michael Howard & Cole Howard.

Born in Ogdensburg on December 11,1934, Howard was the son of the late Sanford and Mabel (Thompson) Knight. He graduated from Lisbon High School and married the love of his life, Dolores "Dot" Wilson, on February 1, 1956. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and community.

A hardworking farmer for most of his life, Howard took great pride in owning and operating his family farm. Farming was more than his livelihood—it was his passion, and he was never afraid of long days or hard work. His strong work ethic continued beyond the farm as he was a familiar and friendly face as a bus driver for Lisbon Central School and Flack Bus Tour. He also drove tractor-trailers for McAdam Cheese and Ray Burns Trucking. Even in retirement, Howard enjoyed working at the Meigs Concession Stand, where he looked forward to visiting with friends and customers during local fairs.

Howard never met a stranger. He loved spending time with people, sharing stories, and making others smile & laugh. He especially treasured dancing with Dot, traveling together and making memories with family and friends.

Howard was also committed to serving his community. He was a former member of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department, the United Presbyterian Church, and Local 217A Longshoremen's Union.

Howard's family will remember him as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a respected farmer, and a man whose life was built on honesty, perseverance, and love for his family. His legacy will live on in the generations he helped raise and in the countless lives he touched through his friendship and service.
