Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (June 24, 2026) at 3:00pm at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating.
Irmgard is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, Ingeborg Diehl, Christel Diehl, Michael Tooley, Kathy Limoges, Susan McLear, Thomas Tooley, Shawn Tooley, Sharri Tooley, Steve Monroe, Andrew Monroe, and several extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Leo J. Degone, who passed away on November 3, 2020, as well as by four brothers and five sisters.
Born in Trippstadt, Germany on July 30, 1932, Irmgard was the daughter of Phillip and Elizabeth (Kallenbach) Hill. She graduated from high school in Germany and later married the love of her life, Leo J. Degone, on September 3, 1958. Together they began a life of adventure and hard work, relocating to the United States. Over the years they made their home in California and Washington before eventually settling in Ogdensburg, where they became part of the community they would call home for many years.
Throughout her life, Irmgard was known for her strong work ethic, kindness, and dedication to family. She farmed for a period of time, worked in a clothing factory, and provided domestic care and assistance to others. No matter the job, she approached it with determination and pride.
Irmgard found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved caring for her home and gardens, playing bingo with friends, and traveling back to Germany to visit her roots and loved ones. Above all, she treasured the time she spent with her husband, Leo. Their marriage was built on love, companionship, and shared experiences, creating memories that remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Those who knew Irmgard will remember her warm spirit, resilience, and the love she shared with family and friends. Her gentle presence and caring nature will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
The family extends great appreciation to Christa Rickett, Audri Tehonica, Kim Frisina, Terri Langenmayr and Kasi Pharoah for providing loving care and support to Irmgard and her family since her return home from the hospital four weeks ago.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Lawrence County SPCA and Hospice of St, Lawrence Valley.
