John B. Newtown, age 96 of Ogdensburg passed away early Tuesday (Mar 14, 2017) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility. There will be no funeral services. Burial will be in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ogdensburg.
Surviving are two sons John (Janet) Newtown and David Newtown & his fiancée Georgia Gilmour both of Morristown; two daughters Sharon (Rick) Dapson of Virginia Beach, VA and Nancy Zuber of Bradenton, FL; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
He was predeceased by five brothers Eddie, Francis, Donald, Jerry & Alfred Newtown and two sisters Rose Condon & Gertrude Duprey.
John was born on August 7, 1920 in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of the late Curtis & Gertrude (Sheils) Newtown. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and entered the US Army in 1942. He later married Margaret Burley, which ended in divorce.
During his career he worked for the Rutland Railroad, Diamond National as a foreman and later as a carpenter for Joseph Montgomery.
John was a member of the Barney Pond Hunting Club and enjoyed riding horses, socializing, hunting and spending time with his family.
