John Patrick Weldon was born on March 17, 1954, in Mount Kisco, NY, to Christopher J. Weldon and Bridget Gaughan. Born 15 years after his older siblings, he was a rambunctious young boy who kept his parents on their toes. He was raised in Archville, NY, where, as a young man, he found early purpose working at the John D. Rockefeller Estate and the Sleepy Hollow Country Club. After graduating high school, he continued serving his community by working with the Archville Fire Department and operating snowplows and heavy equipment for the Town of Chappaqua. He met the love of his life, Marianne Jelenek, at St. Teresa’s School while participating in teen club activities. Although they went to different high schools, they stayed close, often catching up through long phone calls and evening drives that helped keep their connection strong.
On May 8, 1976, John and Marianne were married. Shortly after their wedding, the couple honeymooned at the Weldon family camp in Redwood, NY, an area John had cherished for its quiet beauty and sense of peace. They chose to briefly settle there on Millsite Lake, making a conscious decision to raise their family in the North Country, far from the bustle of New York City. That summer, John began working in Heuvelton, NY so he and Marianne purchased what would become their lifelong home – a place they shared 49 years of marriage and raised a family of three beloved sons; Eugene, John & Mark.
John spent the better part of his career delivering petroleum products for D.I. Bush Fuels. Over more than 20 years with the company, he built strong and lasting relationships with the Bush family and served businesses across the tri-county area with dedication, humility and pride.
Though Heuvelton became home, John’s heart remained on Millsite Lake. Each summer, they would return to the lake, where they were often joined by family and friends. A devoted member of the Millsite Lake Property Owners Association, John cared deeply about preserving the natural beauty of the lake for generations to come. Come winter, you could find John snowmobiling with friends in the Adirondack mountains. He loved nature and seized every opportunity to “work on a project” and experience the outdoors.
John lived with quiet strength and resilience having first overcome tongue cancer more than 30 years ago. He faced a renewed battle over the last three years with the same courage and grace that marked every chapter of his life. John passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 5, 2025.
John is survived by his loving wife, Marianne Weldon; his children, Eugene (Jennifer) Weldon, John (Jennifer Bashant) Weldon, and Mark (Tracy) Weldon; and his grandchildren: Robert (Nicole), Evan, Bridgette, Calan, Delaney, Aidan, Addysen, Corinne, Carys, Tristan, Beckett, and Dylan. He is also survived by his sister, Valerie Carron; his brother, Christopher Weldon; and many cousins, friends, and acquaintances. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Colleen Weldon.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Father O’Brien, Father Morgan, and Bishop LaValley for their friendship, blessings, visits, and prayers during this time.
