

A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph D. O’Hare, age 78, of Ogdensburg and Edgewater, Florida, will be held on Thursday at 2:00pm at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Jay Seymour officiating. Entombment will follow services at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 11:30am to 1:30pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Mr. O’Hare passed away peacefully on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Alice Hyde Medical Center in Malone, surrounded by his loving family.
Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie; his daughter, Diane (Douglas) Fifield of Ogdensburg; his son, Michael (Kari) O’Hare of Malone; and his brother, Patrick (Barbara) O’Hare of North Carolina. He will be remembered by his grandchildren, Ryan Fifield (Ben Reed) of Ogdensburg, Brittany Fifield (Lindsay Bylow) of Ogdensburg, Gracie O’Hare of Malone, and Gabrielle (Zachary) Buckley of Bloomingdale, NY, as well as his two great-grandchildren Cai & Callum Fifield, who brought him great joy. He is also survived by numerous relatives and friends who will cherish the memories they shared with him.
Joe was born in Ogdensburg, the son of Joseph and Blanch (Perry) O’Hare. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy and continued his education at Powlston Business Institute in Syracuse, where he earned his Certified Public Accounting degree. On September 27, 1969, he married Bonnie Benson.
Throughout his career, Joe worked for Whalen Davey & Looney, Wrights Marina, and Mitel before becoming the director of ANR, a position he held until his retirement in 2016. Joe took great pride in his work and in the many friendships he formed throughout his career. He was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Kawanis and the American Legion in Clear Water, FL.
Outside of work, Joe found happiness in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed playing cards, collecting coins, watching football and NASCAR, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was the center of his world, and he treasured every opportunity to be together with them. Joe also loved spending time in Florida, where he enjoyed the warmth and relaxation of his home in Edgewater.
Joe will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, and a man who treasured his family and the time they shared together. His kindness, humor, and genuine love for those around him will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His family will forever cherish the many memories, stories, and moments that made Joe such a special part of their lives.
