

Funeral services for Joyce M. Powers, age 85 of the United Helpers Nursing Home and formerly of Centennial Terrace will be held on Sunday (March 20, 2011) beginning with calling hours at 12:00noon until the time of the service at 1:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor Gloria Strong officiating. Her place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park
Mrs. Powers died Thursday (March 17, 2011) at the nursing home surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving are her children Richard & Bonnie Powers of Ogdensburg, Marcia & Charles Hillis of Palmyra, Jacquelyn Powers & her companion Patrick Hickey of Watertown, Debora Parks of Lima; sisters Margie & Gene Love of Ogdensburg, Barbara Barr of Ogdensburg, Frances Durrand of Brockville, Ontario; step-sisters Rita Coleman of Hannawa Falls, Alice Warren of Heuvelton, Shirley Trzaskos of Albany; step-brother Arthur Leblanc of GA; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins. A brother Jack Frederick; step-sister Annette Caskinette; step-brother Renee’ Leblanc and a grandchild Dallas James Peck-Powers predeceased her.
Joyce was born on April 30, 1925 in Potsdam, NY a daughter of the late George W. & Helen (Dake) Frederick. She graduated from Potsdam High School and married William H. Powers on August 11, 1945 in Morristown. He predeceased her on Oct 10, 1995. During her working career she was employed at Standard Shade Roller, waitressed at local restaurants, worked as a laborer at local cheese plants and retired from Newell Manufacturing in 1973.
She enjoyed bingo, knitting crocheting, crossword puzzles, her cats, listening to country music and spending time with her family.
