

Laurie A. O’Brien, age 68, of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 27, 2024, at her home under the care of St. Lawrence Valley Hospice and surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held, Friday, January 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Oswegatchie Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fox & Murray Funeral Home.
Laurie was born on February 25, 1956, in Ogdensburg, NY, to the late Catherine (LaVigne) LaRock. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, Class of 1974. After graduation, Laurie began her professional journey at Mitel, where she managed phone components. She furthered her education at Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg. After completing her studies, Laurie joined the Ogdensburg City School District, working in the cafeteria.
She eventually found her calling at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, where she devoted 27 years of her career before retiring in 2021. Laurie held various roles at the hospital, including housekeeping, registration, radiology, Connection for Women, and her most cherished position at the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center.
On September 14, 1975, Laurie married James O’Brien at St. Mary’s Catherdral. They shared a life filled with love and cherished moments. Laurie found joy in gardening and had a special fondness for birds. In her leisure time, she enjoyed playing games on her tablet and caring for her beloved pets, including her cat, Phoebe, and her dog Bronson.
Laurie is survived by her children, Justin O’Brien and his companion Sharies Lagundino of Ogdensburg and Leann Williams and her husband Nicholas of Ludowici, GA; her brothers, Kenneth LaRock and his wife Becky of Ogdensburg and Steven LaRock and his wife Cathy of Lisbon; her grandchildren, Zophia, Evan and Emma Williams of Ludowici, GA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, James Edward O’Brien; her mother, Catherine LaRock; her sister, Linda Smith; and her grandparents, Ruth and Joseph LaVigne.
