A Celebration of Life service will be held for Mrs. Lea A. Barrett, age 61 of 17 Oak Street in Ogdensburg, on Tuesday evening (April 15, 2014) at 6:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Davis officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
Calling hours will be held also on Tuesday at the funeral home from 2:00- 6:00pm. Lea passed away at her home on Thursday (April 10, 2014) with her husband and sister by her side.
Surviving is her husband Philip J. Barrett; 2 step-sons Philip J. Barrett II of Albany & Michael F. Barrett & his wife Keri of Ogdensburg; 1 step-daughter Ms. Trisha Nusser of Fairfield CT; a brother Lyal Newvine & his wife Linda of Canton; a sister Mrs. Randy (Julia) Langston of Daytona Beach FL; grandchildren Alex Barrett, Brody Barrett, Ryan Nusser and Rebecca Nusser. Additional survivors from a previous marriage whom she remained close to are; mother-in-law Pauline Amo of Ogdensburg, three brother-in-laws Timothy Amo & his wife Sally, Michael Amo & his wife Tammy both of Lisbon, Richard Amo & his wife Valerie of Ogdensburg and a sister-in-law Debbie Fields and her companion Paul Girard of Ogdensburg along with nieces, nephews & cousins.
Her brother C. John Newvine of Bloomfield, NY predeceased her.
Lea was born in Canton NY on July 31, 1952, a daughter of the late Lewis & Julia (Dashnaw) Newvine. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1970 and attended Canton A.T.C. She was first married to Robert Amo which ended in Divorce. She later married Philip J. Barrett on June 13, 1997. She was employed at the Ogdensburg City School District for 38 years, and was the Administrative Assistant in Management Services at the school when she retired in 2008. As a music lover, she helped establish the Seaway Valley Community Band, and particularly enjoyed the Big Band era of music. For over 25 years, Lea portrayed several acting roles in numerous musical theater productions in high school, and later with the Ogdensburg Community Players and Spotlight Theater Artists groups.
She played the guitar and was a vocalist at many area weddings. She and her husband traveled widely on their motorcycles and also enjoyed camping and fishing.
