

Funeral services for E. Lewis Smith, age 72 of 3738 SH 812 Rensselaer Falls, NY will be held on Thursday (March 8, 2012) at 11:00am at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor David Sheppard officiating. Interment will be at Foxwood Memorial Park and Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. Mr. Smith passed away on Sunday (March 4, 2012) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving is his wife Carol; seven sons Lawrence Woodward of Redwood, Rick Woodward & his companion Tracy Bush of Ogdensburg, Greg Woodward & his companion Kathy of Nebraska, Timothy Woodward of Alexandria Bay, Allen Smith & his wife Elizabeth of South Port, CT, David Hanna of Massena and James Hanna & his wife Lisa of Rensselaer Falls; six daughters Cynthia Harris & her companion Jeff Kier of Hammond, Connie Neuroth & her husband Tim of Hammond, Tammy Smith of Hammond, Jacqueline Smith of Morristown, Robin Johnson & her husband Andrew of Canton, Jamie Hanna-Slater & her husband Charles of Canyon Lake, TX; two adopted daughters Anna Taylor of Watertown & Brenda Hill of Ogdensburg; two sisters Alice Chapin of Brier Hill & Margaret Smith of Watertown; 27 grandchildren Trevor Harris, Amanda Major, Jessica & Michael Woodward, Kimberly Foote, Richard Nichols, Gregory, Lewis & Jason Woodward, Brandon Howie, Ashley & Austin Woodward, Matthew Smith, Brad & Katie Neuroth, Zachary, Alicesa & Brent Raymond, Amber & Kendra Hanna, Nicole Johnson, Andrew Johnson II, Cody & James Hanna, Mara White, Ethan & Emma Slater and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Grandchildren Roger & Chad Dafoe predeceased him.
Lewis was born on January 1, 1940 in Ogdensburg, NY a son of the late Clyde W. & Ruth E. (More) Smith. He graduated from Morristown Central High School and attended Clarkson University where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He married Alice K. Goolden on April 9, 1977. She predeceased him in 1992. He then married Carol Wright-Hanna on October 1, 1994 at the Baptist Church in Ogdensburg.
During his career he owned and operated a dairy farm in Brier Hill for several years, worked construction for a period and in November of 1988, became employed at Acco Brands International as a fork lift operator until his retirement in 2010. Lewis was a member of the 1st Congregational Church of Morristown and enjoyed telescoping, math, WWII history, science, traveling, squirrel hunting, loved his wife Carol, and was a proud father and grandfather. There will be a local blood drive on June 11th @ the Ogdensburg Elks Club in Memory of Lewis.
Memorial donations can be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Center or Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
