

Funeral services for Margaret “Peggy” M. Gilmour, age 96 of Main Street in Morristown, will be held on Saturday (Jan 14, 2017) at 2:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor David Hart officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Stone Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Mrs. Gilmour passed away on Saturday (Jan 7th) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility surrounded by her loving family.
Surviving are two sons John (Marilyn) Gilmour of Jacksonville FL and Bruce Gilmour of Londonderry NH; a daughter Margaret “Peggy” (Edward) Blackmer of Oak Point NY; eight grandchildren Douglas (Janice) Gilmour of Wheaton IL, Jeff (Sarah) Gilmour of Gresham OR, Stacie (Steve) Rockhill of N. Syracuse, Darcy (Hank) Mahaffy of Clay, Dana (Jared) Hammond of Liverpool, Nicole (Brian) McCoy of Webster, Collette Gilmour of Fairbanks Alaska and Austin Gilmour of California; great-grandchildren Samantha, Alexandra & Katherine Rockhill, Jake, Cole, Brooke & Chase Mahaffy, Nathan, Collin, Evan, Isabella & Maggie Gilmour, Lauren & Jillian Hammond and Makanna McCoy. Her husband Jere D. Gilmour predeceased her.
Margaret was born on July 5, 1920 in Southampton NY, a daughter of the late John & Mabelle (Brady) Moon. She graduated from East Rockway High School and continued her education at Syracuse University, NY University and Adelphi earning two Masters Degrees. On March 21, 1943 she married Jere D. Gilmour at the Bethany Congregational Church in East Rockaway NY.
During her career she worked as a teacher being creative with education to motivate students and entice learning.
Margaret was a member of the Presbyterian Stone Church, CSEA Teachers Retirement System, Daughters of the American Revolution, Local Chapter SWE-CAT-SI, State Chaplin, Regent of Anne Carry Chapter, Chairman of Visiting Nurses, VFW Auxiliary and President of the Resident Council at United Helpers. She enjoyed reading, spending time at her home in Morristown and she loved the St. Lawrence River.
