A Funeral Mass for Marguerite “Margie” L. Barney age 89 of Ogdensburg, will be held on Wednesday (April 3, 2013) at 1:00pm at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Her place of rest will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will also be held on Wednesday from 10:00am until 12:30pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Barney passed away Saturday (March 30, 2013) at the Riverledge Healthcare Facility where she has been a resident since 2009.
Surviving is her sister Mrs. Barbara “Ann” Corrice of Minoa, NY; Nieces and Nephews; Wally Corrice, Ted Corrice, Karen DelMedico, Debbie Bray, Susan Austin, Julie LaVenture, James Rapin, Kathleen Cameron, Ruth Ann Lowery, Alfred Rapin, Michael Rapin, Linda Wilson, Ted LaVenture, Russel LaVenture, Susan Burwell, Peter Barney, John Barney, Jeffery McLear, Joel McLear, Judy Kaban, Joy Jackson, Patrick Truax, Robin Longley, Matthew Truax, Kent Truax, Melissa Andrews, Priscella MacMann, David Marsaw, Penny Glidden, Barney Watson, Christopher Watson, Vernon Barney, Michael Webster; 6 very special sister-in laws Eva Marsaw, Elizabeth Stevenson, Iona Watson, Dorothy McLear, Lillian Barney, Rosemary LaVenture; Best friends Bruce & Judy Harland and her dog Missy.
Her Husband Frank “Scoop” Barney; two sisters Lois Sprague and Mary Rapin and two brothers Robert & Theodore LaVenture Jr. predeceased her.
Marguerite was born on March 15, 1924 in Ogdensburg, NY a daughter of the late Theodore N. & Sarah (Loveday) LaVenture. She first attended Rutland, VT schools before moving to the north country where she attend St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s Academy in Ogdensburg. She began working at the Cleveland Container Co., in Ogdensburg manufacturing shell casings during WWII. She then married Frank “Scoop” Barney on Jan 21, 1946 at Notre Dame Rectory with Msgr. A.D. Charbonneau officiating. The couple resided in Hammond after marriage, and later moved to Ogdensburg in 1959. She then worked at the former W.T. Grant Co. and J.J. Newberry stores in Ogdensburg for several years. She was a member of Notre Dame Parish and a former member of the Hammond Volunteer Fireman Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed time with family, dinner out, playing cards, crocheting, puzzles, participating in numerous 6.2 km Volks Marches and watching television. Memorial contributions can be made to the Notre Dame Heritage or the Bishops Fund.
