Mary Lou Sweeney

A Memorial Service for Mary Lou Sweeney, age 77, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum, with Deacon Rod Rocca officiating. Mrs. Sweeney passed away peacefully on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Patrick; three sons, Brian (Amy) Sweeney and Kevin (Jennifer) Sweeney, both of Ogdensburg, and Patrick (Eva) Sweeney of the Philippines; and a daughter, Jackie (Mike) Farrell of Rochester. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren: Zachary (Tori) Sweeney, Nicholas (Rileigh) Sweeney, Jordyn Sweeney (Matthew Burg), Brynn Sweeney, Benjamin Hughes & fiancée Faith Downes, Jackson Hughes, Lauren Hughes, Alex (Kristy) Farrell, Katelin Sweeney, Beck Sweeney, and PJ and Eric Sweeney. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Eloise, Nora, Jasper, Walker, Attley, Lenora Sweeney, and Lainey June Farrell.

Additional survivors include her sister, Barbara Tucci of Ogdensburg; in-laws Mike (Debbie) Sweeney of Bloomfield, Timothy (Teri) Sweeney of Rome, and Donna (Rod) Rocca of Ogdensburg; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary Lou was born on February 19, 1948, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of the late Leonard and Frances “Jean” (Miller) Sargent. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1966 and went on to earn her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree from BOCES. On September 22, 1972, she married the love of her life, Patrick Sweeney.

Throughout her career, Mary Lou worked as an LPN, provided private duty home care, and served as a teacher’s aide before retiring in 2001. She found great joy in spending time with her family, cooking, scrapbooking, reading Amish books, enjoying a cold Diet Pepsi, and caring for her beloved dog, Charlie.
