

Mary Sarah (Pierce) Doucet, age 94 of Potsdam passed away on September 24, 2025 at the Samaritan Summit Village in Watertown, NY. Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 30, 2025 from 3:00 to 5:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Burial will be held privately at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mary was born in Waddington on October 14, 1930 to Lionel & Lila (McCrea) Pierce. The family moved to Rensselaer Falls where she grew up. She graduated from Canton High School in 1947 and from Houghton College in 1951. She also briefly attended Maxwell School on International Affairs at Syracuse University and taught English at Henderson Central School. She graduated from Ogdensburg Business School in 1954.
She married Donald Doucet in 1961 and they moved to Akron, OH where they welcomed son Mark in 1964 and daughter Jane in 1966. They moved to Great Falls, MT in 1966 while her husband was serving in the Air Force. The family moved to Potsdam in 1968 and they welcomed a son John in 1970. She worked at her husband’s office until 1982. In 1985 she divorced her husband. She had fond memories of taking and completing her Dale Carnegie speaking course in the late 1980’s. She spent a few years as a home healthcare aide.
Mary was a long standing resident of Potsdam for 56 years and only recently moved into Samaritan Summit Village Nursing Home in Watertown. She is survived by her sons Mark of Gouverneur, John of Norwich, CT and a daughter Jane of Gouverneur; grandson Jack of Watertown; a brother David Pierce of Heuvelton as well as many other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lionel and Lila Pierce, and a sister Elaine Pierce.
