

Nancy A. Putney, age 91, of Watertown and formerly of Calcium, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at Jefferson County Hospice, surrounded by the love and care of those who meant so much to her.
In keeping with Nancy's wishes, there will be no public services. She will be entombed in the Oswegatchie Mausoleum.
Nancy is survived by her devoted children, Jeffrey (Pamela) Putney of Calcium, Steven (Patricia) Putney of Statesville, North Carolina, Teresa Johnson of Cary, North Carolina, and Karin (Gerald Young III) of Marion, New York. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren who brought her immense pride and joy throughout her life.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, George A. Putney, who passed away in 2008, and by her sister, JoAnn McLaughlin.
Born in Theresa, New York on July 13, 1934, Nancy was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Agnes (Hotis) Keller. A gifted student, she graduated as valedictorian of Philadelphia High School before continuing her education at Cazenovia College, where she earned her associate degree. On December 17, 1953, she married the love of her life, George A. Putney, beginning a partnership built on devotion, hard work, and family.
Nancy made her home in Calcium beginning in 1973 and later cherished spending her summers on Black Lake from 1994 onward. Throughout her working years, she was employed in retail stores in both Watertown and Rochester. Nancy genuinely enjoyed the people she met through her work and was known for her warm smile, kind heart, and willingness to help anyone in need. Her caring nature and friendly demeanor left lasting impressions on customers, coworkers, friends, and neighbors alike.
Family was at the center of Nancy's life. She treasured time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and found happiness in the simple moments shared with those she loved. Her intelligence, kindness, and gentle spirit will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.
