Patricia Lynn (O’Brien) Hansen passed away peacefully and surrounded by the love of her family on February 22, 2026. A celebration of life and burial will be held at a later time at the convenience of her family.
Pat is survived by five sons, their wives and grandchildren—Jeffrey (Sara, Nicholas, Carter), Brian/Kaelene (Tyler, Connor, Michael), Michael/Kimberly (Matthew, Morgan, Riley, Payton, Rachel, Taylor), Todd/Jennifer (Taylor, Abigail, Xavier), Scott/Andrea (Tristan); one great-grandchild (Milo); her sister (and husband) Carol Bloomer (William); nieces/nephews Kara Close, Kristy Cushing, Patrick Bloomer, Doug Hughes; her half-brother Ned O’Brien; and her partner Barclay Wallace. She was predeceased by parents Dr. Edward O’Brien and Carolyn (Miller) Caul; her step-father Edward Caul; her grandparents Dr. Michael and Francis (McPhilmy) O’Brien, and Dr. Wilfred Porter and Mary (Wann) Miller; twin brother Michael O’Brien; and most recently her husband of 53 years V. Lee Hansen.
Pat was born in Richmond, VA on July 18, 1944, and grew up between Ithaca and Boonville, NY, along with siblings Mike and Jody. After graduating from Ithaca High School in 1962, she married her high school sweetheart V. Lee Hansen on December 30, 1963. She went on to complete both her bachelors and graduate degrees from SUNY Potsdam (1967), before spending many years in secondary education at the Herman-Dekalb, St. Lawrence Central and Ogdensburg City School districts. Her 25 years in Ogdensburg as the school tutor found her in over 400 homes, serving students who by chance, choice or medical circumstance had their education advanced oftentimes by her will and persistence alone.
While neither a native nor her place of passing, Pat called Ogdensburg her home from 1970 through 2025. She and Lee collectively raised five sons focusing on education and athletics, with doses of hard knocks being Lee’s domain. But Pat’s secret sauce was entirely different. Home was wherever Pat was, with love dished one serving of food at a time (yes, even mixed veggies). Outside of her grandchildren and their sports, Pat enjoyed golfing, duplicate bridge, animals, scrabble, reading and quilt-making, with an army of friends from Ogdensburg to Ithaca/Boonville, and Prescott, ON. In the last years of her life, she traveled the world far beyond Ogdensburg with Barclay Wallace, who finally built her that pool she had always wanted.
When she passed, Pat transferred the energy, wit and spirit inherited from her mother (GoGo) to those left behind, and those attributes have and will continue to make our world a better place by and through her. Please consider donating to your local hospice, SPCA or associations for the deaf/hearing in Pat’s name.
