Robert L. Thompson, 89, of Lisbon, died Tuesday, December 5th, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 9th, 2023 at Fox & Murray Funeral Home from 10:00am until 12:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held following the visiting hours at 2:00pm at the United Presbyterian Church of Lisbon with Rev. Walter Smith officiating.
Surviving are his wife Sheila; a son, Gregory (Lisa) Thompson of Morristown; a daughter Sandra (Joseph) Nista of East. Greenbush, NY; grandchildren Abbie Thompson of Lisbon, Karli Thompson of Lisbon, Nicole (Nicholas) Deyette of North Greenbush, Natalie Nista of Troy, and Ryan Nista of Los Angeles, CA; a former daughter-in-law Karla Thompson of Lisbon; along with several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews & cousins.
Robert is predeceased by a son Jeffrey, his parents Raymond and Marian (Putney) Thompson, his three sisters Bette Gannon, Ilene Payne & Una LaBarge.
Bob was born on April 4th, 1934 to Raymond and Marian (Putney) Thompson in Lisbon. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1952 and continued his education at the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH in 1962. He married the love of his life, Sheila Dezell on July 23, 1960.
Bob began his career working on the family farm. Following high school, he drove bus for Flack Bus Lines. After finishing meat cutting school, he began his career in meat cutting for P&C and Acme Markets. Bob was the owner of Thompson’s Meat Market in Lisbon, NY. Succeeding his meat cutting business, Bob drove feed truck for Agway Bulk Feed in Canton, NY. He ended his career driving bus for Laidlaw and First Student.
Bob was a member of the Lisbon Fire Department for 20+ years, and was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons in Waddington for over 50 years. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors, riding ATV’s, boating, visiting with family and friends, spending time at his camp in Parishville, NY, and his utmost joy was watching and spending time with his grandchildren.
