Funeral services for Ronald J. Garno, 73, of Caroline St., Ogdensburg willl be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Church, with Rev. F. James Shurtleff, officiating. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home, Ogdensburg on Monday, 2-4 p.m. & 6-8 p.m. Mr. Garno died Saturday morning, Nov. 10th, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center where he had been a patient since October 15, and he had been in failing health fighting a battle with cancer for several years. Surviving are; his wife, Joanne; 2 daughters, Lori Garno LaRue of Ogdensburg, Mrs. Michelle Janisse of Oregon; 2 sons, Christopher (Amy) Garno of Ogdensburg, Ronald Mark (Lisa Minsker)Garno of Oregon;5 grandchildren, Nicklas and Freighley LaRue, Sydney Garno, David & Sophia Janisse; 1 brother, Charles (Darlene) Garno of Tupper Lake; 2 sisters, Shirley Smith, and Mrs. Albert (Sharon) Livingston, both of Ogdensburg; a step-brother Peter Deschamp of Ogdensburg; 3 brothers-in-law, Thomas II (Mary) Woods of Ogdensburg, James Sr. (Barbara) of New Jersey, Donald (Christine) Woods of Morristown; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Born in Ogdensburg, NY on Dec. 16, 1938, the son of Wilfred & Mabel Tebo Garno, he graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy (OFA) in 1958. He was first employed at the former P&C Food Markets, Inc., Syracuse for 3 1/2 years, then entered the US Army where he served from Nov. 1961-Nov. 1963. Upon his Honorable Discharge he returned to work at P&C Foods, Inc., and became Assistant Manager and eventually Store Manager at the Ogdensburg store. He will be remembered most recently by his employment at Clopman's Furniture, and for Plant Essentials based at Lowes Ogdensburg store in the Garden Center. On January 17, 1976, he married Joanne Woods of Ogdensburg at the Heuvelton Presbyterian Church with the late Rev. Richard Lauterbach, officiating. Ronald loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching sports (especially the Green Bay Packers) reading and listening to music. He took pride in his flower gardens. He and his wife also enjoyed taking trips to Vermont.

He was a member of Notre Dame Parish, and of the Msgr. A.D. Charbonneau Council, Knights of Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to the Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center, Ogdensburg. Condolences may be shared at

I've just learned of Ron's death today and wanted to convey my condolences. He and my brother Tim were best buddies, and I can only imagine that if there is indeed an afterlife, there's some poker and a beer involved in their reunion.

Dear Joanne & family -
I am so sorry for your loss. I had the opportunity to see Ron on many different occasions in our Radiology Department. He was one of our favorite patients - Kristin, Wendy & I liked to harass him when he had to come in and see us. May you find comfort in your many great memories of him.
