A Memorial Service for Roseita M. Thornton, age 78 of Clearwater FL and formerly of Hammond will be held at 11:00am on Saturday (Sept 2, 2017) at the First Congregational Church of Morristown in Brier Hill with Pastor David Sheppard officiating. Mrs. Thornton passed away on Monday (Aug 28, 2017) at Riverledge Healthcare Facility surrounded by her loving family.

Surviving are her children Thelma “TJ” (Greg) Sutton of Hammond; Kristina Petrie of Dekalb; a brother Terry (Clarenda) Krake of Hammond; four grandchildren Eric Sutton, Desirae Sutton, Lyla Petrie, Donald Petrie Jr.; step-grandchildren Gina (Matt) Gibson, Autumn Bumpus & her companion Jeff Foster and William Bumpus Jr. ; great-grandchildren Mckenna Petrie, Lexi Foster, Tehya Gibson and Kaylee Foster. Her longtime companion Kayo Bumpus in 2006 and step-son William Bumpus Sr. predeceased her.

Roseita was born on February 24, 1939 in Watertown NY, a daughter of the late Vincent A. & Thelma M. (Brooks) Krake. She graduated from Hammond High School and continued her education at Morrisville College where she obtained an associate’s degree. She was married to Jerry Thornton in 1971 which later ended, and she again found love with Kayo Bumpus, her longtime companion until his death.

During her career she worked as a License Practical Nurse at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, Gouverneur Hospital, Cedars Nursing Home, Rochester Hospital and several nursing homes around Syracuse. She later retired from Birchwood Nursing Home in Syracuse in 1996.

Roseita enjoyed playing bingo and cards, going to the casino, cruises and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Regency Heights Homeowners board and Red Hat Society in Florida, the Hammond Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Grange and Rebecca’s.

Rosetta was a great friend who I met many years ago when she lived with her parents and brother at the Blue Heaven farm on County Ryan 6 in Hammond. I was her friend thru high school while I stayed at McLear's summers. I will miss her. God be with her.
