Sean was born in Middletown, NY, on November 22, 1958 to the late Warren and Jean (Holmbreaker) Kerrigan. He graduated from Middletown High School and married Elizabeth Penny in 1982. Although their marriage later ended in divorce, Sean’s greatest pride in life remained the family and relationships he built along the way.
Sean spent 27 years serving as a New York State Correctional Officer before retiring from Riverview Correctional. He took pride in his work and the years he dedicated to serving others.
Those who knew Sean knew that he appreciated the simple things in life. He loved being on the river, fishing, riding his motorcycles, listening to music, playing pool with friends, and enjoying the peace and quiet of country living. He could often be found enjoying his online racing game, following his beloved New York Yankees and Buffalo Bills, or simply spending time in his own way. These were the things that brought him comfort and enjoyment and became part of the memories his loved ones will carry with them.
Most of all, Sean was a father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by his daughters, Kalyn Kerrigan and Lindsay Kerrigan LaRiviere; his grandchildren, Adrianna, Chloe, Kyliegh, and Jaden; and his siblings, Barbara Moran, Thomas Kerrigan, and Patrick Sylvester.
Sean had struggles that were not always visible to those around him. His family asks that he be remembered not simply by how his life ended, but for the person he was, the people he loved, the laughter and memories he shared, and the moments that made his life uniquely his own. They hope that his memory will be met with kindness, understanding, and compassion.
There will be no services at this time.
In Sean’s memory, memorial donations may be made to Suicide Prevention Action Alliance, P.O. Box 340072, Columbus, OH 43234.
Sean will be remembered and missed by those who loved him. May he rest peacefully, and may the memories he leaves behind bring comfort to his family and friends in the days ahead.
