Funeral services for Sheila Wells Ashley of Ogdensburg and Daytona Beach, Florida will be held on Thursday (Sept 13, 2018) beginning with a private family prayer service at 9:30 a.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Ogdensburg with Rev. Joseph Morgan and Rev. Justin Thomas concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ogdensburg.
Mrs. Ashley died Sunday morning (September 9, 2018) with her family at her side.
She is survived by three sons, John J. Ashley Jr., Robert J. Ashley & his wife Mollee of Ogdensburg and Andrew A. Ashley of Morristown; three daughters Mary Ashley Carroll of Potsdam, Ann Morley & her husband Andrew of Longs, SC and Sheila Feldt & her husband Scott of Ogdensburg; two brothers Hon. Peter N. Wells of Syracuse and Mark Flack Wells of Fort Covington; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ashley was predeceased by her husband, John J. “Jack” Ashley; two brothers Lawrence “Lonnie” H. Wells and John H. Wells; a grandchild Nathaniel Wells Morley; and a son-in-law William J. Carroll.
Sheila was born on March 2, 1934 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of John H. and Mary (Houlihan) Wells. She graduated from Ogdensburg in 1951 and attended D’Youville College for Nursing.
She married John J. Ashley of Ogdensburg on October 1, 1954, in Niagara Falls Catholic Church. After college, the couple lived in the Ogdensburg area until 1974, when they moved to Daytona Beach, FL.
She served as president of the Wilder Boulevard Condo Association in Daytona Beach, FL., was the past secretary/treasurer of Triple A Lumber, and past member of the St. Lawrence University Golf Course and Daytona Beach Country Club.
Mrs. Ashley loved spending time with her family, playing bridge and playing golf. Her passion for golfing resulted in three holes in one, as well as three eagles. She also won the honors of NNY in 1994.
