

Funeral services for Thomas “Tommy” P. Johnston, age 34 of Ford Street in Ogdensburg will be held on Saturday (Mar 19, 2011) at 4:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Pastor David Piatt officiating. Burial will be in the Hermon Cemetery in the spring.
Calling hours will be held also on Saturday from 12:00noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Tommy died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday (Mar 15, 2011).
Surviving is his mother Sandra Bertrand & her husband Tom of Morristown, his father John “Lee” Johnston & his wife Yvonne “Renee” of Ogdensburg; sons Christian Tailor Johnston of Black Lake age 11, Jacob Raine Johnston of Heuvelton age 7; a brother Shawn Johnston & his wife Andrea of Middletown, OH; sisters Pamela Foskey & her husband Robert of Bermuda, Michelle Hays & her husband Forrest of Massena, Megan Fjeld of Katy, TX;; ½ sister Mary Johnston of Ogdensburg; step-sisters Elaine West of Ogdensburg & Mary Brooks of Virginia Beach and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
Tommy was born on December 9, 1976 in Potsdam, NY, a son of John “Lee” Johnston & Sandra (Pearson) Bertrand. He obtained his education from Morristown High School and SUNY Canton. His career began with O’Connor Telecommunication Service in NJ where he worked as a laborer for a period, and then transferred to Hugh O’Kane where he was promoted to lineman. On Sept 11, 2001 he was dispatched to Ground Zero and worked as a fiber optics technician to restore communications to the stricken area. He then returned to the North Country and became employed at the Dew & Breckenridge plants in Ogdensburg, where he worked in the electronic testing departments. In 2007 he became employed with Kershaw Zalewski Associates in Utica as a carpenter until 2008 when a saw accident caused his disability.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, cooking, his pet dog, playing the drums in local bands and spending time with his kids. Memorial contributions have been requested to Morristown Central School marching band.
