William J. Heck, age 85 of the River Road Hammond died Sunday June 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. As per his request there will be no public services. Surviving is his wife Viola; son Dale (Maria) Heck of VA; daughter Dorothy (Jason) Ramsey of Ogdensburg; sisters Dorothy Usher of CA, Martha Wendlyn of IA; brothers David & Richard Heck of CA; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Bill was born on July 15, 1928 in Glendale, CA a son of the late Elmer & Connie (Crumpler) Heck. He graduated from Glendale High School and married Viola M. Plantz on May 13, 1948 in Las Vegas. In 1952 he entered the US Army until 1954 when he joined the US Army Reserves for an additional eight years. Bill worked in the family plaster business in California for many years, and in 1970 he relocated to Hammond with his wife Viola and began working for the town of Hammond as a mechanic. In 1981 he then became the superintendent of Plantz Camps until 1995 when he retired.
