Alexica Jean Calyer, affectionately known as Jean, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, after a life filled with love, service, laughter, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. She was 81.
Jean was born during a snowstorm on January 10, 1944, at her grandparents' farm near Seiling, Oklahoma. The roads were too treacherous to travel, so her arrival was marked by warmth and resilience at the home of her maternal grandparents, reflecting the spirit that would define her life. She was the cherished daughter of John Pershing Myers and Aline Frances Knott Myers.
Raised in a loving home, Jean graduated from Oakwood High School in 1963 and went on to complete her education at Enid Business School. While attending school, she worked diligently in the basement of St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, handling billing and bookkeeping — a testament to her commitment to both learning and helping others.
It was in Enid that she met the love of her life, Dan Calyer, through a pair of mutual friends — her roommate Shirley and Dan’s roommate, Tom. Their love story blossomed quickly, and they were married on December 10, 1966, in a quiet evening ceremony at the chapel at Vance Air Force Base. Their honeymoon was spent simply and sweetly in Wichita, Kansas, before returning to begin their life together.
Together, they raised two beloved children, Tammy and Todd, and created a warm, nurturing home filled with laughter, tradition, and unconditional love. Jean’s life was rooted in family and faith, and her home on Willow Creek Road — which she and Dan built in 1974 — became a gathering place for friends, neighbors, and generations of children whose lives she touched through her work and caregiving.
Jean held a variety of roles throughout her life that showcased her versatility, compassion, and tireless work ethic. She worked at Dub Richardson Ford in Oklahoma City and later co-founded a babysitting business with her dear friend Martha McNeese — caring for the children of local teachers with deep devotion. After closing that chapter, Jean spent 15 years with Edmond Public Schools, beginning as a substitute and eventually becoming the cherished cafeteria baker at Washington Irving Elementary. She retired in 2009, having touched countless lives with her warmth and signature baked goods.
Jean was deeply proud of her family. She is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, Daniel James Calyer III; her children, Tammy Bronaugh (Patrick) and Todd Calyer (Jennifer); and her treasured grandchildren, Austin Calyer, Zoe Calyer, and Nathaniel Bronaugh. She also leaves behind her loving siblings: Harlan Myers (Margie) of Oakwood, Oklahoma, and Dianne Ludwig (Wayne) of Okarche, Oklahoma; her aunt, Maxine Turner; As well as a host of extended relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Aline Myers, whose love and legacy lived on through her.
Jean was known for her deep kindness, gentle humor, and steadfast dedication to her loved ones. Whether baking in the school kitchen, sharing stories over tea, or quietly giving of herself behind the scenes, Jean’s impact will be felt for generations to come.
She will be dearly missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
A funeral service for Jean will be held Friday, September 5, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley, Oklahoma City, OK 73131.
