She was born in Oklahoma, and proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage. Mrs. Parsons was trained as a registered nurse and served in that capacity at different stages of her life.
Avis was married to Vernon Parsons, and their lives were filled with travel, lake houses, tennis, and good friends. She was known by many names – Mom, Momma, Memaw, and Gamaw-to those she left behind: daughter Patti (H.D.) and her children, Taylor(Kelsey) and Claire(Richie), and Paula(Mickey) her daughter, Rachel(Dustin) and her great granddaughters, Aubrie and Grace.
After Mom left Oklahoma, she lived with Patti’s family for almost twenty years. Avis went through life with a special friend, Barbara, and their friendship lasted till the end of their lives.
A private graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.MemorialParkOKC.com for the Parsons family.
