

Betty Jean Christian, 84, was born October 6, 1927, in Kiefer, Oklahoma, and passed away on Friday, August 17, 2012. Her father was transferred to Salem, Illinois during the oil boom of the 1930’s. It was there that she graduated from Salem High School and met her future husband Ray E. Christian. After high school, Betty Jean returned to Oklahoma with her husband and was instrumental in starting various oil field companies, many of which are still in business today. After raising her children, Betty Jean began working at Oklahoma Christian University, where she was a valued staff member for 17 years. During that time, she made an impact on the lives of students and co-workers alike. Following retirement, she spent her time as a devoted grandmother, where she was always at the core of family events and gatherings.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James Osa and Ona Colclasure; her sister Iva Barnes and her husband Gene Barnes; her sister Mary Rector and her husband Gordon Rector; her brother I.E. “Bud” Colclasure; her brother James Colclasure and his wife Wilma Colclasure; her brother Kenneth Colclasure and his wife Gloria Colclasure; her brother-in-law Shelby Rogers; and her grandson Ryan Christian. She is survived by her two sons Steven R. Christian, Pottsboro, TX. and Richard L. Christian Oklahoma City, OK.; her sister Osa Rogers, Farmington, NM.; five grandchildren, Mark Christian, Edmond, OK., Spencer Christian, Austin, TX., Eric Christian, Oklahoma City, OK., Nicholas Christian, Oklahoma City, OK., Melissa Jonsson, Oklahoma City, OK.; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Betty Jean dedicated her time to helping others. She was a respected member of the community and touched the lives of many throughout her 84 years. Betty Jean led a unique and remarkable life. She will be truly missed. Services for Betty Jean will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, followed by an entombment at the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. There will be no visitation, but the family will receive guests following the service.
