Betty Hunter, J.D., died on May 23, 2016. She was born July 4, 1929, in Lawton, Oklahoma, to Ina Peet and George Elrod. Betty graduated in May 1947 from Lawton High School, and married her husband of sixty years, Stewart Hunter in August 1950. After giving birth to two sons, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Education in May 1964 from Central State College, (now the University of Central Oklahoma) and began teaching at Putnam Heights elementary school. After her sons left home, Betty decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming an attorney. She obtained her Juris Doctorate Degree from Oklahoma City University in May 1982 and began working in the State Attorney General’s office in 1983.
Betty loved pets, music, dance, theater, books, film and travel.
She is survived by her son Craig and wife Rose, her son Jeffrey and wife Gai Hunter, Oklahoma, her brother Bob and wife Andrea Elrod, and her sister Vicki and husband Dan Madden.
