Bettye J. Ames died on November 29, 2013. She was born May 10, 1929 and was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Ioda Mohr and her sisters, Anabel Massengill and Dorothy Holmes. Survivors include the love of her life, Charles Perry Ames; the pride of her life, her three beloved sons and their families: Scott and Hari Lu Ames of Tulsa, OK; Lauren and Conner Snedden of Dallas, TX; Meredith, Darius, Ames and Jensen Dills of Dallas, TX; Alison Ames of Tulsa, OK; Brett and Carol Ames, Grant and Johanna Ames, Brandon Ames and Brittney Ames of Poway, CA; Mack and Kim Ames of Oklahoma City; Blair and Andrew Rische of Houston, TX; and Erin Ames of Oklahoma City. Her surviving sister is Adele Miller of Houston, TX.
Bettye attended Oklahoma City public Schools. She attended the University of Oklahoma and was a lifelong Sooner fan. Her mother insisted that Bettye take shorthand and typing while in high school in case she needed to find a real job since she majored in Art at OU (mainly because she didn’t have to take any math courses in the Fine Arts school). She did indeed need a job and for five years served as Executive Secretary to three exploration managers at the Oklahoma City offices of Mobil Oil Corporation. She then was hired as the Executive Secretary to Robert A. Hefner III of The GHK Company in Oklahoma City and enjoyed that position for about 30 years (with a few years subtracted because Hefner fired her twice, but she outdid him and quit three times!). She loved working with Hefner and he gave her the opportunity to not only travel in the U.S., but also Europe and the Far East. She loved the sun, beaches and oceans and traveled with Perry on numerous trips to Mexico and the Caribbean, along with many trips to golf courses throughout the U.S. and Mexico.
Hers was a life well lived and she will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered.
