Carolyn Gene Taylor, 88, of Edmond, Oklahoma, lived a life full of love, laughter, and strong roots that never really left the soil she grew up in. She was born on February 5, 1938 in Edmond, Oklahoma. An only child, she was proud to be her daddy’s girl, spending her early years on a dairy farm where she felt most at home. Some of her happiest memories were riding her horse, Billy, and soaking up every bit of farm life alongside her Daddy.
In high school, Carolyn was known for her warm, social spirit. She had a wide circle of friends and a natural way of making people feel welcome—a trait that stayed with her her entire life.
If you asked her what mattered most, she’d tell you it was her family. Being “Meemaw”/“Meemee” was her greatest joy. She adored her grandchildren and made sure she was always close by—even working at their elementary school just so she could be there whenever they needed her. Time spent on “The Hill,” surrounded by family, was where she was happiest.
Carolyn had a gift for making a house feel like home. Her door was always open, and she never met a stranger. Whether you stopped by for a quick visit or stayed a while, you were always welcome. She was known for picking up the phone just to say, “I just wanted to hear your voice,” a simple phrase that meant so much to those who loved her.
In her later years, she found quiet joy sitting on her porch, watching hummingbirds, deer, and squirrels pass through, appreciating the simple beauty of each day. Carolyn would extend the invitation to stop by anytime as you were leaving and she truly looked forward to your “next visit”. She also shared her life with several special pets—Toby, Molly, and Sassy—who brought her comfort and companionship.
Carolyn passed away peacefully and comfortably on April 22, 2026 surrounded by her family. Her family is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by Good Shepherd Hospice, Supreme Caregivers, Mercy’s Stroke Unit, the palliative care nurses, Mercy Hospice, and many others who supported her and the family during this time.
She was preceded in death by: mother Hazell Ruth Habben and father Eugene Walter Habben and grandson Levi Scott Wilkins.
She is survived by: son, Doug Taylor, grandson, Chris & wife Lindsey, granddaughter Kacey and grandson Sam; son, Kent Taylor, daughter, Sharie Childs, husband David grandson Jake Wilkins, daughter Terrie Hickman, husband Dan, grandson Matt, wife Aubrey and granddaughter Kalie along with five great grandchildren whom she adored! Carolyn had a large and loving family of cousins and friends who will carry her memory forward.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to each of you who have been part of helping us bring love and joy to Mom as she lived out her time on “The Hill”. A celebration of Carolyn’s life will be planned in June. Please reach out to her children for details.
She will be deeply missed, but her love, her warmth, and her voice—so often just wanting to “hear yours”—will stay with us always.
