Curtis Leon Booher was born near Luther, Oklahoma on May 29, 1941, as the fourth child of Roy Curtis Booher and Eunice Taylor Booher. He attended Luther and Jones elementary schools, as well as Jones High School where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He later transferred to Classen High School in Oklahoma City where he continued to participate in its sports programs, graduating in 1959. In 1959 he was named to the All State Baseball roster. During his years at Classen he played baseball in the American Legion program. He would then enroll at Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State University), where he benefited from scholarship assistance in its baseball program. After leaving college, he became a member of the Teamsters Union and for many years was a long-haul driver, as well as a local delivery person. During this time, he honed his skills as a storyteller and wrote several books, beginning with one of his best, “The Circus has Left Town”.
Curtis was married to Audrey Jane Howard in 1973, with whom he enjoyed a wonderful life until her death in 2002. Besides Jane, he is also preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Frank.
At an early age, Curtis claimed Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized at First Christian Church in Jones. At his death he was a member of West Side Christian Church in Yukon, Oklahoma.
He is survived by his brother, Jim (Jo) Booher and his sister Carolyn Morse, all of Oklahoma City; Nephews, Glen (Diana) Booher, Clay (Michelle) Booher, and Matt (Kerrie) Booher; Nieces, Diana (Larry) Spencer, Carolyn Booher, and Sarah (Bill) Madden. From his marriage to Jane, all of whom he will forever be Papa, daughters, Christine James, Kelly (Steve) Varner, all of Bridgecreek; Granddaughters, Cristal (David) Heath, Mistee (Vernon) Bigham, Amy (Sven) Schwoegler, Sarah (Kelly) Whitwell, and Melissa Anderson; 9 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held for Curtis at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 24th, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 13313 N. Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK with burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
