Curtis was born on December 4, 1936 in Arapahoe, CO, the sixth of eight children born to Louis Nelson and Violet Irene (Owens) Symes. He departed this life and entered his eternal home on January 6, 2026 in Oklahoma City, OK, to be reunited with his parents, siblings and other relatives and friends that have gone before.
Curtis was a hard worker. He was raised on a farm where he helped his dad with the livestock, plowing and baling hay. He built the home for his family from the ground up, with the help of Uncle Tony. He worked for Kimray Inc. for 20 years as a machinist while delivering topsoil and firewood on the side. He later formed his own company, Symes Trucking, where he prepared lots for many housing additions in Edmond, OK. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to the lake with his family.
Curtis met Mary Louise Pierson when they were teenagers at John Marshall Jr. Sr. High School. They were married in 1954 and had four children, Curtis Lee, Dale Gene, Darrell Glenn and Sandra Louise.
Curtis is survived by his former wife Mary Symes, sons Curtis Symes and wife Donna, Dale Symes, Darrell Symes and wife Tracee and daughter Sandy Semler and husband Jerry, 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Sinia Miller, Linda Bradley and husband Bill, sister-in-law Nancy Symes and lots of nieces and nephews.
Curtis was predeceased by his parents, siblings Wilbur, Wilma, Buddy, Glen, Junior and his grandson Jacob Semler.
Curtis was a joy to be around. He was very witty and loved making people laugh. He had a big heart and would go the extra mile for someone in need.
A special thanks to our cousins for all the visits and Sunday dinners at the farm, which he enjoyed so much.
Our family would also like to thank the staff at Morada Lake Hefner Assisted Living for all the love and attention they gave our dad.
