Don was born on August 31, 1931, in Tulsa Oklahoma to Ted and Winifred Anderson. He was welcomed home from the hospital by older brothers, Ted and Bob.
He attended public schools in Tulsa, graduating from Rogers High School in 1949. Don continued his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he majored in Business.
On December 28, 1952, Don married Mary Jane Kelly. The couple briefly lived in Seminole, Oklahoma before Don’s 2-year service in the United States Air Force took them to Tacoma, Washington. It was there they welcomed daughter Kathy in 1955.
After Don’s military service, he and Mary Jane returned to Oklahoma City and purchased a home in The Village, where they welcomed sons Steve (1956) and Mike (1960). The family joined Covenant Presbyterian Church in 1956, where he and Mary Jane remained longtime members. Don started a brokerage firm and general supply company before going to work as CFO of Pumpco Supply, where he worked until his retirement.
Don’s life was full in scope and meaning. As the family grew, he coached little league football, and along with Mary Jane began singing in the church choir. He was a member of the OKC Kiwanis Club. In 1968 Don became Scoutmaster of Troop 201, the troop sponsored by Covenant church. Under his leadership, the troop flourished and grew, with multiple scouts achieving the Eagle rank.
Don and Mary Jane loved to travel. The young family had multiple summer cross-country jaunts to National Parks, mountain camping, historic cities, and even the Canadian wilderness. Once they became empty nesters, their travel turned to tours of both the US and abroad.
Don’s strong devotion to family was sustained as the look and feel of family gatherings changed; his children married with grandchildren and great-grandchildren added to the mix. He and Mary Jane gave loving attention and always-ready hugs to the growing crew as often as they had the chance.
In 2019, Don and Mary Jane moved to Epworth Villa, where they were surrounded by friends, caring staff, and a wonderful choir community that let them continue with their love of singing.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and wife.
Don is survived by daughter Kathy Robertson of Schertz, Texas, and sons Steve Anderson (Kyle) of Lexington, South Carolina; and Mike Anderson (Sara) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and seven (soon to be eight) great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply.
A Funeral Service will be held at Epworth Villa, 14901 N Penn Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK, on July 24, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made out to Epworth Villa Worship program.
