Edgar Lawton Petty died June 8, 2018. Born March 2, 1926 to Edgar and Mary Elizabeth (Lawton) Petty. Brother H.D. Petty. Married Adelaide Pregizer August 23, 1950 (died 2012). Attended Oklahoma City Public Schools. Earned B. A. in Psychology from Oklahoma Baptist University. Earned a masters and doctorate (1964) in Educational Psychology from OU. Edgar served in the U.S. Navy (WWII) 1944-1946 aboard the USS Roosevelt.

He taught in Oklahoma City Public School (1.953-1958). Instructor in Education at OU (1958-1962). Associate Professor of Education and Psychology at Eastern New Mexico University (1962-1968) and Vice President for Student Affairs (1967-1968). Professor in Psychology and Personnel Services and on the Adjunct Faculty at Central State University (1968-2000).

Edgar accepted Christ and taught Bible studies in many churches and in the community throughout his life time. As a longtime member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Edmond, he served as a Ruling Elder and Emeritus Elder ( 2011).

He spent many years breeding and raising pigeons (doves), chickens and ducks to study the genetics of color and pattern in plumage. He was active in poultry organizations throughout his life time. Remaining family includes one niece, three nephews, fourteen great nieces and nephews, seven great great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

Edgar the bird man and Adelaide the cat lady. Seemed incongruous when I first met them in the '70s, but they made it work and for over half a century as well. Edgar loved to talk about his birds; Adelaide and I shared a love of cats. Loved them both and will miss them.

To a man who I loved and adored. I have so many memories of you! Growing up you were always like the grandfather i never had! But you were sure a great uncle! Uncle Edgar i am so blessed to have had the time that i had with you. You were truly a godly man. You lived a life like Jesus would have while here on this earth. Thank you for everything you have taught me over the years! We miss you so much!
