Hal was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, on March 27, 1940, to Maggie and Buck Pratt. He graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University and married Leslye Kaye Abeldt of Waynoka, OK in May 1968.
Hal was dedicated to public service. He served in the US Navy and later worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and retired from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
Hal had an incredible zest for life and his many hobbies included woodworking, machining metal, leatherworking, fabricating firearms, spelunking, camping, calculus, navigation, cat snuggling, plucking the banjo, photography, history, current affairs, airplanes, volunteering with his daughter’s Girl Scout troop, astronomy, scotch, hiking, strumming the guitar, and playing with his grandchildren.
Hal is survived by his wife Leslye, his daughter Katie and her husband Brian Brown , and his son Luke and his wife Caroline, all of Oklahoma City. He is survived by his three grandchildren Mali Branwyn, Everett Byrne, and Preston Thane. He is also survived by his sisters Ann and her husband Dan Hart of Jenks, OK, Nancy Pratt of Dublin, Ohio, and brother Keith Pratt, Columbus, OH, his best friend Robert Brown, Edmond and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Hal Buck, mother Maggie Adell, brother Joe Brenden, and friends Bill Carpenter and Don Bingamon.
A graveside service for Hal will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 N. Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
