

On January 29, 2016, three days before his 78th birthday, James Gerohn Spence, Ph.D. left Never Neverland to be with his Lord and Savior. He was born to Charles Garvey Spence and Anna Laura Spence on February 1, 1938. He is survived by his brother, Karrol Spence and wife, Karen along with many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by three lifelong friends and 1956 Southeast High School classmates,Eddie Carrier, Peter White, and Ronnie Millican. His death was preceded by his parents and 3 siblings, Charles Garvey, Jr., Robert Weldon and Desa Jan. Gerohn ‘Sweet Jimmy’ attended Central State University, Oklahoma State University, and finally received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Oklahoma. He moved to Florida afterwards where he taught as a professor at the University of South Florida before retiring in 2008. Gerohn taught thousands of students through his many years and those students, I’m sure, appreciated his total commitment to their success in Economics. Gerohn will be greatly missed by all that loved and knew him. Viewing will be from 4 until 7pm on February 2, and Service will be at 2pm on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in the Historic Cemetery Chapel located at 13313 N. Kelly. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
