Born May 13, 1930, to Norman C. “Red” and Pansy “Pink” Blansit, Joan grew up in the Missouri Ozarks, around Branson, Forsyth, and Walnut Shade. One of ten children, she was raised on the family farm, where she learned the value of hard work and caring for one another—values she carried throughout her life.
Joan attended School of the Ozarks and Southern Missouri University. She met her future husband in Rockaway Beach, Missouri, where their story began on the dance floor. His career as a geologist with Phillips Petroleum brought them to Oklahoma, where they raised their three children, Steve, Cheryl, and Judy.
A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Joan took great pride in caring for her family and making a beautiful home. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing many of her children’s clothes as well as her own. Her home was always kept pristine, reflecting the care she brought to everything she did. She also enjoyed gardening and horseback riding. Her husband’s involvement in the Shrine Mounted Patrol made horses a special part of their life together.
They eventually settled on an acreage in Edmond, creating a home that became a treasured gathering place for their family. Their children and grandchildren shared happy times there, with horses to ride and room to play and be together.
After her husband’s passing in 2007, Joan remained closely connected to her children and their families through daily conversations, visits, and family activities.
Joan was the last surviving member of her childhood family of twelve—her parents and their ten children. Her siblings were Ernestine Blansit Murray, Pete Blansit, Bob Blansit, C.C. Blansit, Imogene McCorkle, Betty Schouten, Arlene Johnson, Bessie Biggs, and Phylis Mischke.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Steve Womack and his wife, Carolina; Judy Womack Ward and her husband, Buddy; and Cheryl Womack Standage and her husband, Ron. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family who will cherish her memory.
A service honoring Joan’s life will be held Thursday, November 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the Historic Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery, 13400 North Kelley Avenue, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73131. The chapel is located on the cemetery grounds on the east side of Kelly Avenue. A graveside service will follow.
