J.T. Jones

JONES, John Thomas ("J T"), was born in Nash, Oklahoma, on 24 June 1933, the third child and second son of Robert Frank and Florence E. Jones (nee Harris-Pollet). He passed from this life on 17 April 2016 as a result of pneumonia. He was married (1956-1967) to Patricia Ann Rickey with whom he had a son, Robert Rickey Jones. He was married (1976-1979) to Patsy (Stacks) Gregg.

J T graduated from Norman High School in 1951 and from Oklahoma City University in 1954. While at OCU he pastored churches in Texola and Mountain View. He attended the Perkins School of Theology at SMU and was ordained a deacon in the Methodist Church.

An avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, J T was also a golfer. He was a personal friend of several professional sports figures and played golf with many of them during his 38 years in Dallas, Texas. While in Dallas, J T was a bookkeeper and an accountant at various banks before joining the staff at a nursing home.

In 1994 he moved to Oklahoma City to assist with the care of his mother and reunited with his college roommate, the Rev. Theo "Doc" Benson, who hired J T as a project manager for The Education and Employment Ministry (TEEM). In 2005 he moved near Foster, Oklahoma, and returned to Oklahoma City in 2010, where he made a home with his brother Ralph until departing this life.

J T was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Peggy his brothers Robert F. (Bob) Jr. and Karroll (KC) and by his nieces Terry and Carol. He is survived by his son Rick and grandson John Theodore (Teddy) Jones, by his brother Ralph "Rocky" Jones, his brothers' widows Johnnie Mae Jones and Kay Jones, as well as three nieces, eleven great-nieces/nephews, and five great-great nephews/nieces.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on 23 July 2016 at the Norman Music Institute, 2795 Broce Dr, Norman, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers please contribute to Oklahoma City University, the Oklahoma City Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.
