It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura, who left us on Thursday, October 26th to embark on her next journey. Laura led a full life, one that was marked by her unwavering love for her family and her passion for all creatures great and small. She was the beloved wife of George, a cherished mother to her children, Pierce and Kinsey, and a beacon of unapologetic authenticity to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Laura grew up in Tulsa before moving to Stillwater, where she graduated from Oklahoma State University. This is where she met her husband, George, and where they would eventually get married on campus at the Bennett Memorial Chapel. Shortly thereafter, Laura and George moved to Atlanta for work. But after her children Pierce and Kinsey were born, the family decided to move home to be closer to family. While living in Edmond, Laura worked at the Arts and Humanities Council, where she oversaw coordinating the Blues & Jazz Festival each year that we all loved so much. In her free time, Laura was a ferocious reader, often consuming piles of books in a week – which only made sense why she started splitting her time as a librarian between the Edmond Public Library and Edmond North High School. Laura’s work and activities reflected who she was as a person.
Laura's love extended beyond her immediate family; she was an avid animal lover. Her home was a sanctuary for countless four-legged companions throughout the years, providing shelter and unconditional love to all who crossed her path. Her compassion for animals was a testament to her kind and nurturing heart.
Laura was a woman of unparalleled spirit, a force of nature who danced to the rhythm of her own heart. One of Laura's most endearing qualities was her unapologetic candor. She had a rare gift of speaking her mind with honesty and sincerity, never one to sugarcoat the truth. Her friends and loved ones always knew they could count on her for sage advice and genuine, heartfelt conversations. In a world where words are often chosen carefully and sentiments masked, Laura was a breath of fresh air. We will miss her unwavering commitment to authenticity.
Her memory will forever remind us to embrace the fullness of life, speak our minds without hesitation, and cherish the connections we make along the way. As we say our goodbyes, let us remember that her spirit lives on in the hearts of all those she touched. Her memory will forever be a guiding light, inspiring us to live life to the fullest, love with all our hearts, and be unapologetically ourselves, just as she was.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to a cause that embodies Laura's values and passion. Details for contributions can be found at www.pivotok.org. Please note your gift is in remembrance of Laura so we can acknowledge your contribution.
A celebration of Laura's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1st in the Worship Center at New Covenant Church off Boulevard. Please join us to honor and remember the incredible woman she was.
Rest in peace, dear Laura. Your presence in our lives will be sorely missed, but your spirit will live on in our hearts, forever speaking its truth.
