

She was born on Sunday, September 3, 1933, in the middle of the Depression, in a dugout, on the plains of western Oklahoma near the town of Texhoma, to Loren and Irene Flanagan. Her home was filled with Bible stories, Sunday School, and country life. Her Christian family enjoyed friends, neighbors, and family, nurturing a happy life. Lilas accepted Jesus Christ at the age of eight. Her parents were employed as farmers. Her father also ran a Gambles store and her mother was a homemaker.
Lilas Flanagan married James (Jim) Holder in rural Texhoma, Oklahoma on June 25, 1954. To this union two children were born, a son, Kendall, and a daughter, Karmalene. Jim passed away Monday, May 16, 2022.
Lilas was a member of the First Covenant Church. Through the years, Lilas served in the church choir and other volunteer roles.
Left with memories of Lilas are her sisters Iretha Flaming (Kenneth, deceased) and Elaine Thompson (Tim), son Rev. Kendall Holder (Alecta); daughter Karmalene Roche (Rev. Edward); five grandchildren, Sgt. First Class Quentin Holder, Rev. Vance Holder (Rev. Kari), Kendra Collazo (Jamie), Brandon Roche, and Nate Roche; four great-grandchildren, Norah, Hayes, Johnny, and Hudson; brother-in-law Rev. Ronald Holder (Barbara); and extended family and friends.
Cremation has taken place. All are invited to a graveside service to celebrate Lilas Holder's life at Roselawn Mortuary and Memorial Park, 1920 E Crawford, Salina, Kansas on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. followed by refreshments and fellowship at Lilas and Jim Holder's condominium at 934 Manchester, Salina, Kansas.
