She grew up playing ball with her four brothers and learned to sew and cook from her mother. Of all the books she enjoyed and collected, her two favorite books were the Holy Bible and the hymnal.
She accepted Christ as her Savior at 8 years old and was baptized at Britton Baptist Church. She found much success in school, graduating from Britton High School in 1946 at the age of 16. Her sweetheart Charles Abner Venable Jr. rode across town on horseback to court her, they married in November that same year. Once graduated and married she attended business school for a time but found her final job as a food service worker at Heritage Hall Upper School, from where she would later retire. She was a charter member of Classen Blvd. Baptist Church. Some of her contributions included singing in the choir, serving as a children and adult Sunday school teacher, children’s choir director and mission’s director. She cared deeply for all children and was truly a teacher at heart.
She moved to her last residence in 1965 where she would raise her four children. She encouraged her children to pursue their interests which included sports and music. She loved playing ball with them. She encouraged her daughters to learn the piano and enjoyed living her love of music through them. She always had a song to sing and sang beautiful lullabies such as You Are My Sunshine and Bushel and a Peck to her children and grandchildren. She gave her children the gift of music, who passed it on to their children, and so on. She loved telling stories and singing songs, teaching her family the values they hold close to their hearts to this day.
She was passionate about everything she did, but the two most important things to her were God and family. She baked the best pies for holidays and cakes for her grandchildren’s birthdays, adding her love into every dish to make it truly special. One of her most treasured dishes were the noodles she would make for Sunday dinner.
She passed into God’s hands on April 13th, 2019 and was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers J.E. and Ralph, and her loving husband of 64 years. She leaves behind her two brothers, Harold, wife Phyllis and Bill, wife Melba, son Raymond Venable, wife Charlotte, three daughters, Nita Garrett, husband Jerry, Kaye Spriggs, husband Randall, Teena Brooks, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is loved and will be missed by her family and friends, who are excited to one day join her in heaven.
