Mary Jane (Rhoden) McCarty, 63, of Guthrie, passed away Thursday, September 29, after an extended illness. Born March 29, 1948, she was adopted at infancy by Helen Rhoden. A 1966 graduate of Northwest Classen High School, Mary Jane held assorted jobs in and around Oklahoma City over the years, including work as a scopist for stenographers; however, she was primarily a homemaker. In 1999, Mary Jane married Patrick McCarty, the second marriage for both. They were members of New Covenant United Methodist Church in Edmond. In her spare time, Mary Jane enjoyed collecting recipes and cooking, planning vacations and traveling, birdwatching, trips to the beauty salon, and spending time with loved ones, especially her dog, Daisy. She also loved to keep up with the news, and read the newspaper front-to-back every day, giving special attention to the obituary section, because of her interest in the life stories of others.
Preceding Mary Jane in death were her mother, Helen, and her baby boy, Brandon Patrick Birchall.
Mary Jane is survived by Patrick, her husband of twelve years, and his three children, Laura and husband, Pete, Bethany, and Ryan; her son Matthew Birchall of Oklahoma City; her daughter Megan Nissen and husband, Justin, and her precious granddaughter Carmen, all from Yukon; and her Aunt Nona from Wewoka and several cousins.
The family would like to thank the numerous doctors, nurses, therapists, and others who cared for Mary Jane over the summer, as well as her friends from church who were so supportive throughout this difficult time.
Mary Jane will be forever remembered as a loving wife, a caring mother, a doting grandmother, and a good friend to many, with a sly sense of humor, a great laugh, and an ever-present twinkle in her eye.
Under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home, Oklahoma City, OK.
