Mary Frances Love
October 5, 1921 – September 6, 2019
Mary Frances Cunningham Prince Love was born to Amos A. and Iva (Barton) Cunningham on October 5, 1921 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
She had a sister, Anna Louise who did not live with the family. Mary is survived by son, John Thomas Prince and wife, Jeanne, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Kim Wemhaner and husband, Paul, Oklahoma City, Kaci Millus and husband, Ryan, Oklahoma City, Matt Prince, Edmond, Oklahoma, and Kylie Matthews and husband, Andrew, Moore, Oklahoma; 5 great-grandchildren, one cousin, and many friends. Mary’s mother died from tuberculosis when Mary was 7 years old. Mary lived with her Aunt Leota and Uncle Ben Pettigrew until Amos married Clara. Then she returned home.
Mary graduated from Ft. Smith High School in 1939. After graduation, she moved to Oklahoma City, OK to attend business school. She went to work at a law firm in downtown Oklahoma City as a secretary. This same law firm later assisted in the adoption of John Thomas Prince in 1949.
Mary married John “Weldon” Prince on June 17, 1942. They moved to Wichita, Kansas and Weldon went to work for Boeing Aircraft. During World War II, while Weldon was away, Mary moved back to Oklahoma City and worked at Douglas Aircraft at Tinker Field until he returned from service.
Weldon was an insurance adjuster and was transferred to Lubbock, Texas in 1954. Mary and “Tommy” (as the family called their son, John) joined the Second Baptist Church as charter members. Mary worked for the Chamber of Commerce in Lubbock and later for the C. B. & Q Railroad.
Mary and John Weldon Prince divorced in 1959. Mary and Tommy moved back to Oklahoma City. Mary held several secretarial jobs and retired from Mid-Continent Life Insurance Company Mary married George Love in 1961. George was a mechanical contractor and together they built their business. George was a Mason and member of the Shrine. Mary and George had a very happy life together and travelled to Spain and other countries. George died on December 23, 1972. Later, Mary met Howard Peil and they enjoyed each-others company for many years. She took care of Howard when he became ill. Howard passed away in 1999.
