Mary Joyce Schroder was born March 6, 1930 to John and Lillie (Armstrong) Simpson in Caney, Oklahoma. Joyce was the third of eight children. Upon her graduation from Caney High School, where she was a stellar basketball player, Joyce moved to Oklahoma City and went to work at OG&E. She met Norvin Schroder through a mutual friend and they married six months later. They loved to dance and did so often for the next 57 years. They had a long and happy marriage and raised three children, Fred, Linda, and Paula.
Joyce was active in her church, volunteered at school, and was a Girl Scouts leader. She was a wonderful mom and grandmother. In her later years she was involved in a quilting ministry at her church and spent many hours sewing. Joyce loved Thunder basketball. Toward the end of her life she dealt with dementia but remained very sweet and retained her sense of humor. God blessed us greatly with our mother and family and we are very thankful for those blessings.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband Norvin, son Fred, son-in- law Steve Green, and six of her siblings. She is survived by her daughter Paula Green, daughter Linda Burns and her husband Scott, granddaughter Laura Burns and her husband Benedikt Alberternest, brother Travis Simpson and his wife Margaret, sister-in-law Alice Simpson, brother-in-law Albert Schroder, and numerous nieces and nephews.
