

Dr. Melvin “Bun” Burnitt Baker Jr., 80, a visionary dentist and aviation enthusiast, ascended to eternal skies on February 21st, 2025, leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and adventure. As a long time Edmond resident, he will be fondly remembered as a remarkable pilot, dentist, and loyal friend. Born in Oklahoma City on July 17th, 1944, Bun's life was a shining testament to his unwavering passion for helping others and living his best life.
He graduated from Harding High school in Oklahoma City and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma as a proud member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He furthered his education at Baylor University, where he earned his postgraduate degree in Dentistry. Bun's passion and dedication to dentistry spanned over 44 years, with practices in Edmond, Oklahoma City, and Bethany. A passionate aviator, he was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, U.S. National Aerobatic Association and the Flying Dentist Association.
Bun lived life to the fullest, whether he was flying, attending airshows, going to the air races, collecting cars, riding his motorcycle, traveling, spending time with his grand kids, or simply enjoying lunch with friends at his favorite restaurant spot Johnny’s Charbroiler. Some of his best days were spent at his hanger wrenching away on one of his many projects telling stories about the time he got in trouble for buzzing the tower as well as many others with his airport buddies. On July 27, 2018, he married his best friend, Cindy Russell-Daniels. Bun and Cindy were both avid dog lovers and over the years shared their home with Roxy, Gimmie, Sheeba, Sammy, and Daisy while enjoying their time together lounging by the pool and watching FOX news.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Burnitt Baker Sr. and Dorthy Elna Baker, and his brother, Tommy Baker.
Bun's memory will be lovingly remembered by his loving wife, Cindy; his sons, Chris and Stacy; their families, including his beloved grandchildren, Madison, Austin, Mason, Harper, and Matthew all residing in California; his sister, Barbara; and a host of cousins and friends. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later date.
